Plot Outline: A family in Chicago inherits the yacht formerly owned by Clark Gable. They decide to sail it from the island of Ste. Pomme de Terre to Miami, and they sail with the assistance of Captain Ron and their lives will never be the same again.
Okay, there isn't a lot of depth to this movie, but that isn't what they were aiming at when they made it.
It's just your basic, "Your 'normal', average family hires on a wacky guy to help them, and then have trouble getting rid of him--but sort of grow attached to him" movie. Like "What About Bob" and about a hundred others of the genre.
Kurt Russell is the wacky Captain Ron (though it could have just as easily been played by Sean Penn in his Fast Times at Ridgemont High Spicolli character).
Martin Short is the nerdy father Martin Harvey. Mary Kay Place is his wife Katherine Harvey. Benjamin Salisbury is their young son Benjamin. Meadow Sisto is the daughter Caroline who just announced her engagement to a biker.
There are a few things where a seasoned sailor will cringe a bit where they didn't do their research, but they took artistic license to put in a bit of comedy if it was more important than accuracy.
