OttoBlog
2006/09/05: Intro

For people that don't know me and have just stumbled on this site, I'll offer up a short biography of myself.

My name is Otto. I'm a 41-year-old retired software engineer living in Minnesota.

I've been active in the "online community" since the mid-1980s, starting out in the genres of humor, science fiction, and (especially) Star Trek. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, about once every few months fellow science fiction geeks would come up to me and tell me that they saw a mention of me in yet another book. I was the author and keeper of the official FAQs (about 15 lists of frequently asked questions) in the Star Trek newsgroups on Usenet.

In the early 1990s, I started the first professional wrestling-related webpage on the internet. It was a sub-section of the general OttoWorld site I had hosted by the University of Minnesota Alumni Association until I broke down and bought my own domain in 1998. I had no idea how much traffic it was generating until various wrestlers, valets, managers, and promoters would come up to me and say "You're Hack-Man? I waste hours on your web site every day!"

I really want to keep this first blog short, as I've been known to go off on a 4,000-word essay if someone gets me started on a topic I'm passionate about.

This blog will be updated irregularly. Sometimes I might go a week or two with no new entries, and at other times I might have several new articles in a single day.

If you have any suggestions for what you'd like me to rant about in future blogs, drop me a line at: blog@hack-man.com (keep the subject as "HackBlog" or it'll get filtered into my spam folder).

Until next time, this has been OttoBlog.
