2007/06/05: Road Trip

This is ending up more complicated than it should be.

Last year I didn't make it out to my parents' summer cabin in Montana, because I was waiting for someone to make up their mind on when an acceptable timeframe would be.

This year, I've decided to either fly out alone, or to drive out with them (flying and driving each cost me about the same ($350 or so) so unless multiple people are going out--it doesn't make fiscal sense for me to drive.

If I fly, it'll probably be in August, and I'd probably stay for a good 2 or 3 weeks. If I drive, it'll probably be for a week max (despite the fact that it consumes an entire day to drive out and another day to drive back).

I've learned not to schedule time in Montana while my sister is there. A few years ago, I had asked my father if a certain date range was acceptable for planning a trip out there. He told me it was fine, as no one else had made any reservations yet. As the date drew near, my sister had decided she wanted the same timeframe, but wanted the place (and our parents) to herself. I had to cancel my plans (that had been in place for about six months) to accommodate her.

I only make it out to Montana about once ever 5-7 years, so this was particularly aggravating.

I'm not getting any answers about driving out to Montana this summer, so I'll probably end up just flying out alone.

Interestingly enough, just as I wrote the above sentence, I got an instant message from my older brother asking if I'd like to hitch a ride with them when they go out in a week. I'll probably take him up on that offer. Not sure if I'll also fly out in August or not.
