WCW: * My childhood hero and fellow Minnesotan Gordon Solie has quit WCW because he felt it was insulting to lend his credibility to the crap WCW is churning out these days. I can't say I blame him. I'd like to see him (and Pillman, Austin, Wright, Vader, Sting, etc) jump to ECW or WWF os something a bit more respectable. It's been well-known for the last few weeks that he was upset at Angelo Poffo's induction into the Hall of Fame. * WCW expects over 50,000 to view the Bash at the Beach live in California on July 17th. With Hogan on the card, they may get that many to watch it on TV as well. * Brian Pillman was arrested in Cincinnati on DUI charges and drug possession on Tuesday night. The drug (an unidentified blue pill in a plastic bag) turned out to be a prescription painkiller. He was released the next day. He's been having personal problems last week unrelated to wrestling. Don't ask me--I don't know--this news item comes from Wade Keller. Bischoff assure Pillman that this would have no bearing on being re-teamed with Austin for the Hollywood Blonds. * Van Hammer's family's Atlanta adult video & book store was raided. WWF: * Chris "RoidHead" Benoit has made his WWF debut on Monday in Ohio in a dark match during MNR. He lost to Bob Holly. He did not tell anyone in charge at ECW of his plans, but did let friends know. Vince watched the match from ringside, and appeared happy wiith what he saw (even though Holly screwed up the finisher). Most people are hoping he'll come in as a heel to feud with Waltman or Shawn Michaels, but a singles feud with Owen Hart would be nice too. * NBC cancelled the prime time WWF WrestleMania show at the last minute. * The reports in the last two weeks of Hack Notes were wrong about Dustin Rhodes wanting to keep his name in the WWF. He apparently WANTS to have his persona changed from his up-to-now "Son of Dusty" image. The WWF hasn't settled on a gimmick for him yet, but there's about a 75% chance of him starting out as a heel. The WWF hopes to debut him at the next set of TV tapings. * Jim Ross is trying to bring all the top American stars out of Japan. In addition to Benoit (see above) and Spivey (see last two weeks of Hack Notes), he has been actively pitching for Dr. Death Steve Williams, and Kroffat&Furnas. All three apparently turned him down. Oh, Spivey's character is supposed to resemble DiNiro's character in Cape Fear. * A lot of people think the finals of the King of the Ring will be Michaels vs a heel Razor Ramon. ECW: * ECW can now be seen on WKAY-64 in Charlotte, NC Sundays at 1:00 pm. * ECW was pulled out of it's Satuday morning timeslot in Birmingham, Ala. It will apparently eventually be put into a more "adult" timeslot.. * Joey Styles will be dubbed into Spanish for the Spanish version of Prime Network. It will probably be on late Monday night as it (mostly) is on US Prime affiliates. The main markets for the Spanish Prime are Chicago, LA, Miami, Mexico, Soth America, and Central America. * Tampa has contacted ECW to let them know that they want them back (despite the fact that the building was nearly destoyed by fans at the last tour). :-) They DID ask for more security next time, however. MISC: * Look for Tommy Rich, Brad Armstrong, Sunset Sam (as The Punisher), and The Spiders to debut in SMW this Saturday. This to is make up for the Gangstas leaving (likely for ECW). * Hiroshi Hase is retiring to run for the Senate. * Kensuki Sasaki and Akira Hokuta are getting married. * Sabu's 70+-year-old uncle (the Sheik) suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago, spent 2 weeks in a hospital in Japan, and is now back in Michigan. He plans to have at least one more match. * Sabu vs Liger in the January Tokyo dome show. Wrestle Con III? Count me in! * Coraluzzo wants to have a rematch with Sabu vs Lightning Kid. Sabu seems to have agreed. The only stopping block seems to be the WWF. (I was at the match between the two of them in Minneapolis--it was most excellent) * Curt Hennig was a judge at ringside for some Chicago-based American Wrestling Federation TV tapings in Florida. They pay people to act like wrestling fans in the stands and give them free food. Sgt Slaughter and Tito Santana are co-bookers. "Minneapolis" Mick Karch and Terry Taylor do color. Wrestlers include the SST (Samu & Fatu), Too Cold Scorpio, Tommy Rich, Tony Atlas, Koko B Ware, "RoidHead" Warlord, Greg Valentine, Sheik Adnon El Kaissey, Scott Putski, and Jeff Gaylord. The usual disclaimer: I don't have the time to read an unmoderated newsgroup anymore, so some of this info may already be old.
