First, a sincere "thank you" to Wade Keller for inviting me to catch the PPV with him and his gang of regulars. ===== PREGAME ===== Huckster vs Nacho Man w/Billionaire Ted as Ref. It was worth a few chuckles, but I'm kinda hoping Vince will just drop the mud-slinging and concentrate the same creative juices on his wrestling product. This was not live. RESULT: No contest, both Nacho and Huckster died (as did Billionaire Ted when he saw the guy from the FTC) * BodyDonnas vs HOG/PIG for held-up tag titles This wasn't as bad as it could have been. At least they didn't "slop" Sunny. RESULT: BodyDonnas win when Sunny distracts one of the Godwins (I couldn't tell them apart when they were Tex and ??? in WCW, I surely can't tell them apart now) with her "award winning assets". ** ===== START OF PPV ===== (order may be incorrect) Six-man tag: Owen/Bulldog/Vader vs Yoko/Ahmed/Jake Roberts I got my one incorrect guess of the night (I was predicting Owen to do the job). RESULT: * Back Alley Brawl: Goldust vs Roddy Piper The first three-quarters of this match was filmed a few days ago. Good continuity on a lot of details (the blood on the white Bronco, etc). Wade knew they were trying to decide whether or not to go with the OJ footage. Judging from the crowd (there were only a few groans) they made the right decision. Great brawl in the "backlot", though Piper can't take a "car shot" as well as Lawler (whom I have to guess was responsible for at least part of this angle). I could have done without the crotch-grab or the stripping of Goldust down to his women's undergarments at the end, but otherwise I'll give this "match of the night". RESULT: I guess Piper wins. *** Savio Vega vs Steve Austin This match was mainly filler as they showed the Bronco chase. I don't recall which of these undercard matches had the ref bump (probably the UT match) but I called it two spots ahead of it happening. (patting self on back for noticing the ref trying to get in the way a bit early) :-) RESULT: *1/4 Hunter H Helmsley (w/blonde) vs The Ultimate Warrior Warrior was bigger than I was expecting. Sad to see HHH job to this freak. At least it was short (90 second match). RESULT: * Post-match, "Wild" Marc Mero was interviewed, then brawled with HHH (instant feud between two excellent workers) Undertaker vs Diesel The entrances seemed to take longer than the match itself. The loooong resthold in the middle kinda killed the match for me, but the first half and the ending were good. Probably the best match either wrestler will have this year, but still nothing to write home about. RESULT: Undertaker with the clean pin (as predicted). ** 60-minute IronMan World Title match: Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels No real surprises here. A few high spots thrown into 29 minutes of rest holds in the first half; good pick-up for the ending five minutes or so. Not sure why the time-keeper bump was included since it didn't play into the ending of the match. Ditto for the two SuperSock Lethario bumps. Cool ring entrance by Michaels (which was called by one of the spectators in the group). The ending was really good, but this shouldn't have taken an hour. Neither one of these two is in danger of taking away Ric Flair's title of "The Sixty-Minute Man". As predicted by about 30% of RSPW/IRC, it went to a 60-minute draw. I commented that Shawn and Bret should get the tag team titles since they both won. :-) Bret took the title and started walking slowly back to the dressing room. Gorilla Monsoon (now the president (no longer "acting") came down to say that the match would continue until they had a winner. Shawn won with two superkicks (the second one looked very good) and the pin. Not the best match either wrestler has had, but it was nice to see them put in the time and keep it fairly entertaining. RESULTS: Shawn with the pin after about 1:02 **1/2 ===== FINAL THOUGHTS ===== I wasn't as positive about this card as were some of the rest of the people watching. I'm guessing this may have a lot to do with me not seeing Uncensored. Apparently, after that anything would be good. Hell HERB even gave it a thumbs down! ;-) After the PPV was over, Wade popped in last weeks (actually I guess it was two weeks ago) tape of ECW (the one with Brian Pillman holding up the kid, spitting in the food, the great quote "it's only a work, ya know", and the best match I've seen in the past 8 months (Rey Misterio Jr is damn amazing). Then got to see a tape from All Japan Pro-Wrestling from last week between Misawa and three people I didn't recognize. It had three of the top wrestlers in the world, I was told (and it certainly was better than anything in WrestleMania or the last Clash of Champions (the last two Big Cards I'd seen) but I'd have a hard time calling it better than the Rey Jr match
