Shanghai Knights (2003)
Genre: Action / Adventure / Comedy
Tagline: A Royal Kick In The Arse
Plot Outline: When a Chinese rebel murders Chon's estranged father and escapes to England, Chon and Roy make their way to London with revenge on their minds.
I've had this in my rental queue for a few months, but it wasn't released on DVD until four days ago. Luckily, a lot of other people also had it in their queue, so I never got it sent to me--since my GF brought over the DVD last night.
I really enjoyed Shanghai Noon
for which this is the sequel.
Knights had a lot of the same humor and the good chemistry between Jackie Chan (as Chon Wang) and Owen Wilson (playing Roy O'Bannon) but it just didn't seem as funny as the original.
Still, I found it funnier than about 80% of the movies I've seen.
The movie contained the requisite ever-good jackie Chan choreographed fight sequences, which always keep the action moving along.
The only thing that really made me cringe was the number of coincidences (they meet Arthur Conan Doyle and Charlie Chaplin before either of them get famous).
I found some of the period references humorous (Roy lost all their gold from the first movie by investing in Zeppelins, "but at least I didn't invest in that 'automobile' that's come out). At the end of the movie, they decide to head to Hollywood to try their hand at motion pictures. If there is a third movie in this series, that seems to be where the action will take place.
